To help speed up this process the first step to take is to make sure your policy documents are readily available and that you have your policy number to hand.
In most cases you will be sent a claim form which you will need to complete giving the details and circumstances of your claim.
What if I need immediate help
The first thing to do is keep calm!. If it is safe to do so make an initial (and rapid) assessment of the damage and call the relevant claim line as soon as you can.
In many cases the claim line will give immediate authority to call out a contractor but in any case will advise you on what you should do. The first and most important step is to prevent any further loss or damage and to protect your remaining property.
